100 Years Since the Doors Slammed Shut: Immigration Restriction Then & Now

Event Graphic for 100 Years Since the Doors Slammed Shut: Immigration Restriction Then & Now with historic political cartoon graphic of statue of liberty bent over.

Join us for a fundraiser to benefit the Jewish Coalition for Immigrant Justice to grow our accompaniment program, state and federal advocacy, community engagement, and support for newly arrived migrants.

Your support will build JCIJ’s impact in organizing Jewish individuals, allies, congregations, and multifaith groups across the state. You can mobilize JCIJ’s advocacy for state and federal policy to create systemic change and social safety nets. Your support grows JCIJ’s programing, trainings, and events rooted in Jewish holidays and tradition to bring visibility to ending immigrant detention, ending ICE deportation flights, and supporting newly arrived migrants. Your participation will enable JCIJ to build an Urgent Needs Fund to provide rental assistance, family supports, and legal fees. JCIJ will continue to provide support to advance the capacity of our partner immigrant-led organizations.

Our event program includes remarks by King County Councilmember Jorge Barón, UW History Professor Devin Naar, and Brenda Rodríguez López, Executive Director of the Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network (WAISN). Devin will discuss the history of immigration restriction and impact on Jewish and other communities. Brenda will shine a light on the current experience and needs of immigrants in our state.

We’ll feature storytelling by an asylum seeker supported by JCIJ and honor Pastor Jan Bolerjack with JCIJ’s Tzedek Justice Award for her leadership in supporting asylum seekers at Riverton Park United Methodist Church. Dinner will be catered by Project Feast, who empower refugee and immigrant cooks through hands-on culinary training and education.

All gifts are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law minus any goods or services exchanged.

Look forward to being in community with you to take action for immigrant justice!
